Liquid cooling for your professional workstation? Alphacool says yes! Here's my look at what's new from the German brand at CloudFest 2025.
With the rise of AI, 3D rendering, virtualization and audiovisual applications, heavy-duty PCs need a cooling system to match. Alphacool offers top-of-the-range watercooling solutions for those seeking to combine extreme performance, silence and component durability.
When does watercooling become relevant?
Some might wonder whether such an installation is necessary outside of mining or intensive gaming. As Olivier Marcu rightly pointed out: "At what level of activity would such a box be useful? Is it necessary to mine, or is it valid for the simple use of a word processor with a 10-page doc?"
The answer is clear: watercooling comes into its own as soon as you get into sustained workloads, with consumption exceeding 300 watts (CPU + GPU). It's in this context that watercooling ensures efficient cooling and optimum silence - often decisive criteria for creative, engineering or audio professionals.
Silence and performance: the right balance
Robin Labadie, hosting provider specializing in performanceshares his experience: "My own workstation is equipped with watercooling with three 360 mm radiators, for a peak power consumption of just 400 W on the CPU+GPU part, allowing maximum silence."
Despite the need for only minor annual maintenance (annual draining of the circuit), this type of configuration guarantees a very quiet working environment. A considerable advantage.
Modern solutions for old constraints
Fortunately, today's solutions eliminate the need for such DIY. With control software such as FanControl or fine-tuned BIOS management, silence becomes an attainable goal - even in a recording studio. To go even further, some now choose to place their machine in a separate room, thanks to USB or HDMI fiber-optic extensions. The result: a totally silent environment, with no compromise on power.
