Outsourced backup
To prevent dramatic incidents such as those we've seen, where a fire can destroy backup servers as well as production servers, it's essential to outsource your backups. In other words, backups should be carried out on a server located far from the server to be backed up. Since 2022, LRob has been carrying out backups on a server in Orléans (our head office), a long way from the datacenters. So even in difficult situations, backups remain perfectly accessible.
Why is backup essential?
Human error can happen :
- A poorly configured computer can delete all the mail in a box.
- A folder cleanup error can delete your site.
- A careless user can cause a hack.
You don't want to risk losing your data.
Don't think you're invulnerable. To err is human, and hacking can happen to even the biggest corporations.
So it's essential to always have at least one good backup, if not several.
Reliable backup, managed directly by the server
There are numerous backup modules available for websites, especially WordPress. However, we feel that these solutions are less reliable than a server backup. In particular, plugins that save the site within your site will be of no use to you in the event of accidental deletion. Also, plugins that require you to connect to the site to restore backups will be of no use to you if the site is down.
That's why a site-independent server backup, as offered by LRob, is the most reliable solution.
Your host facilitates your own backups
It's worth remembering that for almost all hosting services, the end customer remains responsible for his or her own backup. But at the same time, many hosting providers don't offer an easy option for backing up all hosting to a solution you control.
Not so with LRob web hosting: you can set up your own full backup to the FTP server of your choice. If you have a NAS in your company, you can be sure of total data sovereignty.
What's more, since backups are carried out by the Plesk panel supplied by LRob, you can easily restore your system to the Plesk hosting of your choice should this ever prove necessary.

Incremental backup of web hosting services
Backups can be configured to be incremental, i.e. they only update data that has changed since the previous day. This optimizes the space required for one backup per day.
LRob uses this approach, albeit with a full backup every month. Even if the risk is low, a failed incremental backup can lead to corruption. So we're being "usefully paranoid" about this by adding a full monthly backup.
